The Aqua Amazon’s three customized aluminum motorized launch boats, or skiffs, take up to eight passengers in each on two to three daily excursions deep into Amazonia along snaking narrow tributaries. Our experienced naturalist guides lead these small groups in search of beady-eyed spectacled caimans and red bellied piranhas in the enigmatic black waters, past slithering fer-de-lance snakes, antediluvian green iguanas and endangered Taricaya turtles along the muddy shoreline while masked crimson tanagers and orange backed troupials dart past and monk saki monkeys appear to turn somersaults in the tree canopy.
In accordance with Aqua Expeditions safety policies and guidelines for responsible travel and environmental conservation, our skiffs are equipped with the latest Mercury 60 HP Marine Outboard engines, which operate at ultra-low emissions levels as certified by the California Air Resources Board. These energy-efficient vessels produce 65 percent lower emissions than required by the United States Environmental Protection Agency standards. Captains on board our skiffs are always in radio contact with the Aqua Amazon to ensure the safety of our guests while they explore Amazonia.
