2014 Travel Trends : Multigenerational Travel
Multigenerational family travel tops the list of travel trends according to the lastest 2014 Virtuoso Luxe Report. Fueling this trend toward grandparents joining with parents and their kids on vacation are retiring baby boomers who have the time and the budget to enable families to travel together. Rounding out the list of desired multigenerational travel vacations are river cruising, active and adventure trips, celebration travel and luxury cruises. And families whose members are geographically separated often find multigenerational trips a rich opportunity to reconnect.
An emphasis on experiential travel, a term once reserved for those seeking to explore local less traveled destinations, has become the latest trend in family travel. Families who have taken more traditional family trips are looking for bigger adventure and more dynamic, meaningful experiences which they can share together including meeting locals, volunteering/giving back, tasting the cuisine and developing a deeper understanding of the cultures unique to the destinations they are visiting.
This trend towards families of all ages travelling together is happening throughout the travel industry with recent studies reporting that U.S. adults planning multigenerational trips in 2014 reached 36%, an increase over the 32% in 2013.
In line with this new trend in multigenerational travel, at Aqua Expeditions, we have noticed an increase in families of all ages booking our cruises in both Peru and in Southeast Asia. We welcome and encourage passengers of all ages on board our cruiseships. In fact the design of our latest cruiseship, the Aqua Mekong, includes four interconnecting suites specifically to cater to families. In addition, our naturalist guides at Aqua Expeditions especially love sharing their expertise about the ecosystems, wildlife and cultures in Peru, Vietnam and Cambodia with our younger guests and go above and beyond to create on board memories for families that will last a lifetime.
