Explorer. Environmentalist. Educator. Film Producer. For more than four decades, Jean-Michel Cousteau has been an impassioned diplomat for the environment and our ocean planet. As Founder, Chairman of the Board and President of Ocean Futures Society, a non-profit marine conservation and education organization, Jean-Michel has championed understanding worldwide about the critical relationship between people and the sea and the importance of wise environmental policy.

Jean-MichelTraveling the Amazon originally with his esteemed father, 35 years ago, Cousteau and the Ocean Futures Society team returned in 2008 to this bio-diverse ecosystem to film “Ocean Adventures – Return to the Amazon” for PBS. An award-winning producer of over 80 films, Jean-Michel has been recognized internationally with numerous prestigious awards for his pioneering work in ocean conservation. In May 2016, he was honored with the highest French civilian order of distinction, the Chevalier de la Légion D’Honneur, Knight of the Legion of Honor by the President of France, François Hollande.

Explorer, diplomat for the environment, educator, and film producer, Jean-Michel Cousteau has communicated his love and concern for our water planet to people of all nations and generations for more than four decades. The son of ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau, Jean-Michel founded Ocean Futures Society in 1999 to carry on this pioneering work and to honor his heritage.

Jean-Michel serves as an inspirational visionary, advocate and voice for the environment, reaching out to the public through a variety of media, producing award-winning films, receiving Emmy awards, the Peabody Award, the 7 d’Or, and the Cable Ace Award, and authoring hundreds of articles and several books. Jean-Michel travels the globe, meeting with leaders and policymakers at the grassroots level and at the highest echelons of government and business, educating young people, documenting stories of change and hope, and lending his reputation and support to energize alliances for positive change.
